Start with having your drawing or sketch drawn on Pounce Paper (usually a substantial clean paper, similar to butcher paper).
Laying the drawing on a surface similar to vinyl or a short-napped carpet, trace the drawing with the pounce wheel, perforating the paper, but being careful not to press too light or too heavy.
Press with just enough force to get good, clean holes in the paper. Test it by holding it up to the light. You should be able to easily see light through the holes. Run the wheel over as much detail as you need.
