Pouncing Techniques Worked for Michaelangelo
Transfering Drawings Just Got Faster and More AccurateI am still amazed that pouncing tools are not a staple in every muralists brushbox. It saves so much time, and insures an incredible amount of accuracy in the transfer of drawings. Why wouldn't you use it? I’ve heard of people rubbing pencils over the backs of their drawings, or even using carbon paper. C’mon, guys! Get with it! It’s embarrassing! The Basics - Step 1The basic premise is that you make your drawing on a piece of paper that has substantial weight (the paper, not the drawing). Then, trace your drawing using a pounce wheel, a nifty little device that is about the size of a pencil. On the end is a small spiked wheel. These little spikes poke small, even holes in the paper. Making the Transfer - Step 2After the entire drawing has been perforated, you then tape your drawing to the exact spot where you want your subject to be painted. Taking the pounce pad (which has been filled with the appropriate colored pounce powder in your hand, rub the terry cloth portion over the perforated holes. This action forces the powder through the holes, in effect transferring your drawing to the wall. If your paper is substantial enough, you can repeat this process indefinitely, using the drawing as your own custom stencil. |
